In keeping with our philosophy of early intervention, Plumfield Academy accepts boys between the ages of 5 and 13 at the time of enrollment. When appropriate, youth can remain in our school until 18 years of age, or until graduating from High School.
Youth in our program have social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, as well as learning differences, and have historically struggled in traditional school settings. Families and schools may experience youth as exhibiting:
- Poor frustration tolerance
- Impulsivity
- Poor problem solving
- Isolation and withdrawal
- School refusal
- Emotional volatility
- Oppositional and disruptive behaviors
- Anger management issues including verbal or physical tantrums and outbursts
- Threats of self-harm
- Difficulty making and maintaining friendships
Youth in our program may have been diagnosed with:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- ADHD/ADD
- Mood Disorder
- ODD
- Neurodevelopmental Issues
- Specific Learning Disorders
- Processing Disorders (Cognitive, Verbal and Auditory)
- Speech and Language Deficits
